M.S. Ramaiah Dental College and Hospital (Now The Faculty of Dental Sciences) was established in 1991. The Faculty offers a 4‑year undergraduate programme including one year internship leading to the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree and a 3‑year postgraduate programme leading to the Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) degree
The Faculty also offers Certificate programmes in Esthetic Dentistry and Oral Implantology and a Doctoral research programme leading to the award of a Ph.D. degree.
The programmes and curriculum offered by the faculty adhere to norms prescribed by the Dental Council of India (DCI). The curriculum offered is outcome based and helps students to develop critical thinking abilities and to imbibe relevant practical skills for a smooth transition from academics to real life work environment. Opportunities are provided for students to do their internship in India or abroad depending upon their preference. Alumni of the Faculty are working for quality healthcare organizations in India and abroad and while many have established successful practices of their own.
Our curriculum — in addition to adhering to the norms of the Dental Council of India — is designed to exhaustively cover oral and dental health. Special care is taken to ensure that students receive rigorous practical training under the guidance of experienced faculty members Research is also promoted and students are encouraged to develop a scientific curiosity about their field of study.

Admission
Under Graduate Courses
Bachelor of Dental Surgery
(B.D.S)
In case of admission on the basis of qualifying examination under clause (1) based on merit, candidate for admission to BDS course must have passed in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology & English individually and must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology at the qualifying examination.

Eligibility Criteria:
Candidates seeking admission to the program have to match eligibility criteria prescribed by the Dental Council of India.
• Candidates have to have completed 17 years on or before 31st December of the year of admission.
• Candidates must have passed the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) organised by the Central Board of Secondary Education for admission to the program.
• Have passed a qualifying exam as under.
• The higher secondary examination or the Indian School Leaving certificate Examination which is equivalent to 10+2 higher secondary examination after a period of 12 years study, the last two years of study comprising of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics or any other elective subjects with English.
• Passed at a level not less than the core course for English as prescribed by the National Council for Educational Research and Training after the introduction of the 10+2+3 years educational structure as recommended by the National Committee on Education.
• Where the program content is not as prescribed for 10+2 education structure of the national committee, the candidates will have to undergo a period of one-year pre professional training before admission to the dental college.
• The intermediate examination in science of an Indian University or Board or any other recognised examining body with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology that includes a practical test in these subjects with English as a compulsory subject
OR
• Candidates should have passed higher school secondary examination and then a pre- professional or pre-medical examination with Physics, Chemistry and Biology or the Pre University or an equivalent examination. The pre-professional/pre-medical examination must include a practical test in Physics, Chemistry and Biology and also English as a compulsory subject
OR
• Candidates should have complete the first year of the three years degree course of a recognised University with Physics, Chemistry and Biology including a practical test in three subjects, provided the examination is a ‘University Examination’ and the candidate has passed 10 +2 with English at a level not less than a core course
OR
• Candidates should have completed a BSc examination of an Indian University, provided that they have passed with not less than two of the following subjects:Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Botany or Zoology.
• Candidate must have passed their earlier qualifying examination with the following subjects
Physics, Chemistry, and Biology including practical tests in each of these subjects Physics, Chemistry, and Biology
OR
• Any other examination which is in scope and standard equivalent to the intermediate science examination of an Indian University or Board, taking Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, including practical tests in each of these subjects and English
Note: Marks Obtained in Mathematics are not to be considered for admission to BDS programme. After the 10+2 course is introduced, the integrated courses should be abolished

Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must have a recognised degree of Bachelor’s in Dental Surgery awarded by a University or institute in India and registered with the State Dental Council. The Candidate must have obtained a provisional or permanent registration and undergone compulsory rotatory internship for a year in an approved and recognised dental college.
